Blooming nine-patch
So Janine got a long arm quilting machine and it lives at my house. Here is my first quilt using rulers extensively around the nine patches. L.

Blue hexagons
And here's the second from the blue period. This one is based on 60 degree pyramids arranged like a kalaidoscope quilt.
It's got bits of byed-blue lace, a large crocheted doily and a small tatted one. I crocheted the big one, Luanne made the tatted one. They were stitched to the surface with invisible thread before quilting.

Blue and yellow star quilt
This Lone Star quilt was made by my friend Nickey. She asked me to quilt it because she was about to undergo open heart surgery. I hand quilted all of the white spaces with feathers. I haven't done a quilt with quite so much feathery stuff before and I was surprised that it didn't take as long as I thought it would. The whole thing took about 40 hours to quilt. The back is dark blue and the white quilting shows up and looks really cool. L.

Disappearing squares
I found this pattern on Pinterest. My sister-in-law wanted a quilt for her grand-daughter and gave me all of these different bright fabrics and I thought this was the perfect pattern to combine them. L.

Bear Paw
I made this Bear Paw quilt for a friend's wedding. The groom was a mountain man from Wyoming so I thought the Bear Paw pattern just fit the bill. L

Blooming Nine-patch
I found a picture of this quilt pattern in a magazine and thought I could improve on the colors they had. Theirs was pink and black. Another example was on the Amish Country quilting site with beautiful batiks. This is my version. This is a small lap sized quilt. I gave it to a friend who was having health problems. L.

Star Quilt Variation
I made this quilt while I was in Virginia last fall. It was a challenge to cut out because there are four different blocks in the quilt. My plan was to cut out the quilt and take the pieces to Virginia with me and have a project to work on while I was there for four months. I used about 20 different fabrics in each of the values: 20 darks, 20 medium, 20 tans (for the striipes) and 20 white background. Also, my almost 60 year old brain has a hard time with the math, especially when the quilt is on point (somehow the 45 degree angle makes my brain freeze up). In spite of that, I think it came out pretty. I gave it to my mom for her 90th birthday. |

Baby Quilt
Stars and Chains
More babies coming in the family means more baby quilts. This one is based on the Irish Chain with a star and a sort of nine patch variation.Saturday, January 12, 2013
