Bear Paw

I made this Bear Paw quilt for a friend's wedding. The groom was a mountain man from Wyoming so I thought the Bear Paw pattern just fit the bill. L

I found a picture of this quilt pattern in a magazine and thought I could improve on the colors they had. Theirs was pink and black. Another example was on the Amish Country quilting site with beautiful batiks. This is my version. This is a small lap sized quilt. I gave it to a friend who was having health problems. L.

Star Baby Quilt

Here is a baby quilt using the sawtooth star block set on point. It was inspired by a miscalculation when cutting half square triangles for a different quilt. The cute baby fabric with the blocks ties it all together. L.

FLYING GEESE

This quilt is all about Flying Geese and comes from a design in the Heirloom Quilting catalog. I love the way the flying geese around the center block form a star and the smaller flying geese border each block. It was fun to make. My only trouble was that I cut about four times as many squares for the large flying geese than I needed. Oh well, that formed the basis for the next quilt which I will post next week. L.

Star Quilt Variation

I made this quilt while I was in Virginia last fall. It was a challenge to cut out because there are four different blocks in the quilt. My plan was to cut out the quilt and take the pieces to Virginia with me and have a project to work on while I was there for four months. I used about 20 different fabrics in each of the values: 20 darks, 20 medium, 20 tans (for the striipes) and 20 white background. Also, my almost 60 year old brain has a hard time with the math, especially when the quilt is on point (somehow the 45 degree angle makes my brain freeze up). In spite of that, I think it came out pretty. I gave it to my mom for her 90th birthday.
