Blue stars
Hello there - Janine here, with items from my 'blue' phase. Okay, it was only two quilts long, but it was definitely blue!
The block is a variation of one called 'Land of Nod' from the book 'Scraps, Blocks & Quilts' by Judy Martin. All the blocks are the same pattern, but with varying patterned prints, which makes them all look different!

Cross-Stitched and Quilted Wall Hanging
I moved to Virginia a month ago and now all I do all day is quilt or sew. I stitched this picture several years ago but finally got around to putting a border on it.
Halloween
Here is a Halloween table topper. The center block is appliqued and embroidered and the borders are added like a pineapple block. I quilted big spider webs all over it with silver metallic thread but you can't see it in the picture.

Christmas Wall Hanging
Here is a 40x40" wall hanging I just completed for that wall you see just when you come in the front door. The angel and nativity are appliqued, the message is cross-stitch, the tree is composed of log cabin blocks with 1/2 inch wide logs, and the star also has log cabin sections in the background. L.

String Quilt
I made this String Quilt out of all of the long strips left over from years of quilting projects. They were various widths and lengths so I sorted them by widths and sewed same width strips together lengthwise. Then I began sewing them together widthwise. After about 36 strips, I was using longer and longer lengths and when I laid it on the floor I had a perfect rainbow arc. So I unpicked all of the strips, cut them to precise lengths and sewed them together again. This time they came out square. I divided sections of the strips with strips of squares and down the middle is a row of left over nine patch blocks. You can't tell from the picture but when I quilted it, I didn't want to just do lines, and all of this color is hard to mark, so I hand-quilted it from the back (plain yellow) in swirls and leaves and a few butterflies. Table Runner
This table runner has a central star called "Honeymoon" with herringbone stripes going out on two sides. I made this for my mother in law with fabric she picked. She has excellent taste, I think.

The Dog Ate My Quilt
Hey, I can
quilt - but with you two around, I just don't need to. Besides my dog
destroyed mine - see
below - holes added by Ralphie (the dog). T.
Quilted Picture Wall Hanging
This
wall hanging was made for the family reunion drawing. Each of the
pictures is a family shot of my mother's siblings' families. In the
center are my grandparents. Under their picture is a little
cross-stitched section with their names. L.
(Tracie printed the pictures on fabric - she doesn't like to quilt, but she isn't completely talentless - T.)
Four-patch with star
This baby quilt was made for an example to be taught as a
class at a fabric store. It is a four patch with sawtooth stars. The border has prairie points. No one ever signed up for the class and I
ended up donating the quilt to Mother's without Borders. L.
Pink Tulip Quilt
This
quilt I designed myself for a friend who was involved with the breast
cancer society. They wanted something with pink tulips and this is what
I came up with. I only made the top and then they took it and quilted
it in their group. It was pretty painful parting with it only half
done. Like sending your kids off to college. L.
Thousands of Pieces
This quilt is made of 30 blocks with 100 2inch squares each. I made
this for my son's voice teacher in exchange for lessons. I made another
like it just recently for my cousin that had 42 blocks and was king
sized. Add to that a pieced border and there were about 5000 squares in
the quilt. L.
North Wind
This quilt is based on Ocean Waves with the center square divided into four triangles. In one pattern book it is called Northwind. This
quilt is one of the ones that I can't remember making. It must have
been in the late 80s or early 90s. I made it to donate to the
Lady Lions for their raffle.L.
Winding Ways
This
quilt is called Winding Ways (among other names). Every piece is
curved and had to be individually cut with a template. Not as quick as
strip piecing or triangles. I made this while I lived in Germany. I
laid the blocks out on the basement floor fifty different ways to see
what would look best and the cat would come along and mess them all up.
L.
Black and Jewel-Toned Double Wedding Ring
Black and jewel toned double wedding ring quilt. I made this quilt in the 1990s for my mother-in-law. L.
Lady of the Lake
This quilt was called "Lady of the Lake". It is king size. I made it for the son of my landlady in Germany for a wedding present. L.
Trip Around the World Variation
Trip around the world with some of the rows having four patch blocks. Wedding present for my friend's son. L.
Barrister's Puzzle
This is called the Barrister's puzzle with a flying geese border. I made it for my nephew for a wedding present. L.
Log Cabin Quilt
Log
cabin made for the family reunion drawing. The idea was that we would
have the quilt top on at the reunion and everybody could help quilt it
but I ended up doing most of it myself. L.
Elongated Star Variation
I
copied this pattern for elongated stars off of the back of a Hancock's
catalog. Donated it to the Lady Lions for their raffle. L.
Pink Double Wedding Ring
Double wedding ring for my mother in law. She likes pink and roses so I quilted roses in the spaces inside the circles. Also, I made the small wall hanging. L.
Star Christmas Quilt & Projects
Some Christmas projects made with printed panels that I cut apart and sashed. L.
Another shot of that Christmas quilt. I pieced the star blocks. L.
Antique Grandmother's Flower Garden
This was an antique Grandmother's Flower Garden hand pieced quilt top made in the 30's that I quilted in about 1990. Some of the fabrics were so brittle that they cracked when I tried to quilt them. L.
Heart Postage Stamp
This quilt was for our family reunion drawing. We did the continental stitch instead of quilting it. L.
Flying Geese
This Flying geese quilt was pieced by my sister in law, Kathy, for her son. (We are pushing the envelope and making extended family members participate in our obsession of quilting.) I made the back and quilted it. L.
Double or Triple Irish Chain
Double Irish Chain (or maybe triple) that I made for the Lady Lions. I made a quilt for them every year for about five years. L.
Octagon, Calico Snowball, or Hour Glasses
I made this quilt for our sister, Tracie, out of her favorite old fabrics. Tracie can make quilts but she'd rather do the editing for the blog. L.
Jewel Box Quilt
I
made this quilt in Korea when we were stationed there. It is called
Jewel Box. I got the fabric from a friend in our quilt group. She was a
Japanese lady married to an American. She had a lot of beautiful
Japanese fabric. I cut a little piece off of each kind that she had so
there are no more than three pieces of the same fabric repeated in the
quilt (except the green background). L.
Elongated Star
I have
this picture and I know I made this quilt but I have totally forgotten
who it was for. I'm pretty sure I made it in Germany. I like this
elongated star and the wavy pattern it makes across the quilt. L.
Quilted Wall Hanging
This little wall hanging is made from fabric acquired in a block exchange in our quilt group in Germany. We traded five 5inch blocks and were to make something out of them using only two other fabrics. (I cheated and used three). All of the small sampler blocks are paper pieced. The saying underneath says, "Life is a patchwork of friends", and the stripe along the bottom is cross-stitched quilt blocks. I won quilter's choice in the contest. L.
Ocean Waves
I made this quilt for some friends in the Netherlands. (We were stationed in Germany near the Dutch border with the Air Force). I cut the whole thing out and sewed the triangles together into bigger triangles and went to sew them onto the white squares and realized I had cut 2000 triangles a quarter inch too small. I cut down the squares and made the quilt but then it was not king sized any more so I added the borders. I think it made a more interesting quilt. L.
Teddy Bears Quilt
I made this quilt for my son Colin when he was a child. It took about 2 1/2 months to quilt because I couldn't stop quilting around all of the little bear faces in the blocks. L.
Quilted Windmill Wall Hanging
This little wall hanging was made for our friends serving an LDS mission in the Netherlands. The ladies at church made the small windmill blocks and I put it all together along with the message cross-stitched at the bottom. The wooden shoes and tulips are appliqued. L.
Bobbie's Quilt
My
sister in law's mother (Bobbie) made this quilt when she was 16. The
borders were too full and ruffly and she never finished it. Bobbie went on to make
many beautiful quilt during her life. So, when Bobbie was about 90, my
sister in law gave this quilt to me to finish. I was able to fix the borders
and quilt it and we gave it back to her. L.
